An AIADMK worker was on Monday night hacked to death by some unidentified persons in the presence of Tamil Nadu Education Minister CV Shanmugham at Tindivanam.

When the Minister was talking to one Muruganandam (40), who had recently quit PMK to join AIADMK, in front of his ancestral house at around 10 pm, the worker was attacked by some persons in an inebriated condition with cricket bats and bottles, Superintendent of Police, Villupuram said.

Muruganandam died on the spot. The minister was not targeted. One of the attackers was nabbed by the people and later handed over to the police, he said.

Shanmugham is the AIADMK nominee for the Tindivanam assembly seat in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu where polling was held during the day.
