AIDS patients in Andhra Pradesh would get a pension of Rs 200 per month from this month. This was decided by the state cabinet at its meeting in Hyderabad on Monday.

There are approximately 50000 HIV positive persons in the state and majority of them fall below poverty line.

As these people were unable to make a living in view of social stigma, discrimination, the state government has decided top provide pensions. There would be no restrictions on the number of persons in a family eligible to get the pension.
