Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar had to cut short his visit to Sangli, where he was to share a dais with Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, to return to Pune after he complained of uneasiness while attending a function at Kolhapur on Sunday.

Pawar, who also heads Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was examined by local doctors who advised him of complete rest. Following this, Pawar flew back to Pune immediately and went to his Modi Baug home.

After receiving news of the NCP chief’s health, Pawar’s family doctor Ravi Bapat said, “He has been suffering from cough for two-three days. Because of a possible case of bronchitis he has become weaker and therefore been advised complete rest. By tomorrow, Pawar will be able to resume all his routine activities.”

Party leaders maintained that there was no reason to worry about Pawar’s health. “Pawar is only resting at his Modi Baug residence. There is no reason to worry,” said NCP spokesperson Ankush Kakade.
