Leading commercial plane manufacturer Airbus has forecast that India’s airlines would buy 1,030 new planes in the next 20 years considering the strong GDP growth here.

Airbus has upgraded its projections on the rapid economic recovery witnessed in the country. Last year, Airbus said India would require 992 new planes.

“Between 2009 and 2028, carriers in India would require 1,032 aircraft valued at $138 billion to serve long term demand and to replace ageing fleet,” Airbus said.

Out of these, 993 would be new passenger aircraft valued at $131 billion and 39 would be new freighters valued at $9 billion. The number of aircraft required in India is the 5th largest in the world.
