A senior police officer in Ludhiana has been allegedly assaulted by a youth Akali leader and his accomplices.

AIG (counter intelligence) Surinderjit Singh Mand was severely injured in the attack by Akali leader and restaurateur Maninder Pal Singh alias Sunny Johar— considered to be a close associate of state revenue and public relations minister Bikram Majithia —during a party at his own restaurant in the Ghumar Mandi area, Ludhiana.

The accused allegedly thrashed an NRI— Paramjit Singh Passi— also and snatched his licensed .32 bore revolver.

Mand was rushed to the DMC hospital and he has undergone a surgery.

Meanwhile, acting on a complaint filed by Paramjit Singh, the police have eventually registered a case of attempt to murder against Sunny Johar, his nephew Amanpreet Singh and another youth Akali leader Rishi Banda.

The Ludhiana police have also raided the pub-cum-restaurant owned by Sunny Johar and launched a manhunt for him. According to a senior bureaucrat, Sunny flaunts his proximity to the minister.
