The Grammy-nominated singer Akon will run an online contest to select two artists from India. The selected ones will get to perform with him during his upcoming concert on April 16. It will be held at HUDA grounds in Sector 29. He will also perform in Bangalore the next day.
Akon says he wants to give two talented artists the much-deserved break in their career. He wants to discover new musical talent in India, which can be showcased globally later. Artistes can submit their songs at www.hitlab.com/india free of cost. The finalists will be announced on April 13.
The singer says the contest is a birthday gift to his fans, who have been requesting him for a treat, apart from the concert, on his social networking site. Before coming to Gurgaon, Akon will meet underprivileged kids in Mumbai on April 15.
He is doing this on the personal request of actor Suniel Shetty, who runs an NGO 'Save the Children'. Akon will take devote an hour from his busy schedule during his Mumbai tour. Sources said Akon and Suniel will donate to the Japan Relief Fund to help earthquake victims.
Akon, who has sold over seven million records worldwide, will officially launch www.hitlab.com in India. The service will be available in English, Spanish, French, Chinese and Hindi.
Gurgaon residents are excited about the concert, with many of them inviting friends through social networking sites.
