Diganta Guha

It’s been his year so far. And Akshay Kumar is enjoying every bit of the success. HT gets up, close and personal with the star.

If Welcome works, it will be a 100 per cent track record this year, isn’t it?
It’s always a great feeling to know that the audiences have put their faith and money on a film that I have chosen to do. Hits and misses always matter and a Good Friday keeps the fire going.

Success also means working harder to ensure that the next is better... I pray that Welcome also does extremely well and that I end the year with a bang and welcome the next with more hard work and good films.

Welcome is a multi-starrer. You have done so many multi-starrers over the years. How challenging is it to act in such films?
No film is challenging. If the script is good, the work is easy and equations with the other characters in the film are established.

Katrina and Akshay rock on screen. What is so special about this chemistry?
Katrina is easy going and takes her work seriously but with a smile…. There is no reason not to have fun and shoot. Katrina still
exudes freshness in every film and that makes her likeable — a rare asset and a goldmine for any actor.

<b1>Is Welcome a situational comedy?
Welcome is a laugh riot with a great ensemble cast. It will be a stress buster. The message is clear “Leave all your worries at home and come enjoy this film”.

How tough is it to present yourself differently in this genre?
I am an actor. Moulding myself differently in every genre is my work and it is easy for me as I enjoy it.

Has 2007 been your best year so far?
Every year has been good for me but this year may have been better than the rest because all my films have done exceptionally well at the box office. I hope this trend continues.

What are you looking forward to in 2008?
I am sure that 2008 will be as exciting as this year was. I am looking forward to all my releases. This includes Tashan, Singgh is Kingg and Chandichok to China...

Is your son aware of how big a star his dad is?
For my son I will always be a father. He knows that I am an actor but he is still too young to understand anything else.

What next for Akshay Kumar?
Uhmm… ahhh…I have got it all….Thanks to God!
