Before the month is out, you should be able to see Al Jazeera English on your television set. The channel’s Managing Director, Al Anstey confirmed to reporters “we have received permission to downlink and broadcast in India”.

Beginning Tuesday, Al Jazeera English is available in most hotels across the country and the channel will now wrap up deals with cable operators and DTH platforms who had expressed interest earlier, he said.

“Many people had told us they wanted to add us to their list of programmes but at that time we didn’t have permission” Anstey said.

The channel brands itself as an international news channel that doesn’t see itself though a “Western Prism” or an “Arab Prism” or any other prism.

Al Jazeera International will also not be looking at extremely India specific content. Anstey explained saying that the channel prided itself on its international content. He, however, did not rule out a future scenario when Al Jazeera might be able to come up with country specific broadcasts.
