If you think that the residential complex you stay in is safe, then think again.
A gang of thieves tried to break into a flat in Parsvnath Paradise in Sahibabad on Saturday. But alert residents foiled their attempt to break open the door lock and managed to catch three burglars.
Later, the accused were handed over to the police.
According to the residents, they heard some sound from flat number A-116 on the first floor of the society around 12.15pm. As they suspected that someone was trying to break its door lock, they informed the police. However, the residents were wary of the police arriving on time. Not taking any chance, the residents caught the thieves. “Three were caught but one of them escaped with valuables worth R50,000,” said an eyewitness.
The arrested thieves are identified as Naushad, Mehtab and Amir. While Mehtab and Amir are residents of Sundar Nagri area in Delhi, Naushad belongs to the Loni area.
The police said that Rajan Kumar, a textile merchant and owner of the flat, has filed a complaint against the thieves.
Residents of the society have held the Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA) responsible for its lax attitude towards security of the society and its residents.
“There are two entry and exit points in the society. Both lack CCTV cameras and adequate number of security guards. Lack of security infrastructure makes the society prone to thefts,” complained another resident of the society.
