An alert has been sounded after some unidentified gunmen hijacked a taxi in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said on Tuesday..

Some gunmen boarded a vehicle at Sumbal in Bandipora district on Monday evening and asked its driver Imtiyaz Ahmad Pandit to drive towards Srinagar, the sources said.

However, the gunmen forced the driver to stop the vehicle at Sherpora-Pattan, 30 kms from here on Srinagar-Baramulla highway and threw out the driver before escaping from the scene, the sources said.

Pandit, a resident of Gundbal, immediately informed police personnel who flashed a message about the hijacking of the vehicle by unidentified gunmen.

An alert has been sounded and efforts are on to recover the vehicle and bring the gunmen to book, sources said.
