THE OPPOSITION on Monday assailed the State Government of its utter failure in controlling communal violence in Aligarh last month. Demanding a CBI probe into the clashes, the opposition in the Vidhan Parishad said that administration, in order to hide its failure, gave it a communal colour.

Raising the issue in the House on Monday, Sunil Singh (Independent) and Jagvir Kishore Jain (Teachers group) said resentment was still brewing in Aligarh at the officers’ apathy towards tackling the situation. Singh said that a CBI probe was needed to identify the forces responsible for clashes.

However, Jain, being more specific, accused minister of Haj and Minorities Welfare Haji Yaqoob Qureshi and BJP’s twin rath yatras for creating tension in the city.

Jain said that the situation worsened following the murder of the son of BJP MLA Deoki Nandan. Jain said that the officers had been trying to protect themselves and the on-going investigation was not fair.

However, the leader of the House and Minister for Family Welfare Ahmad Hasan said that while taking note of the sentiments of the House, the government would soon present the inquiry report.
