Madhya Pradesh government is now moving the corporate way, at least by the planning it has made. The state government would now make all its departments certified by ISO certificate. This move is expected to reduce levels of process and bring quality in delivering.

The experiment done by collectors of Indore and Jabalpur by getting their collectorate offices ISO certified has acted as a boost for the state government. Their examples were cited in the recently concluded 'Manthan' (IAS officers brainstorming session) and it was decided that all the departments should adopt a proper time-bound procedure and avail ISO certification.

"The state government would now seek ISO certification for all its departments," said principal secretary, GAD (general administration department), K Suresh. He added that this move of the government would ease the procedures and also brings quality in delivery of services by the government.

Indore collector's office was awarded ISO certificate in June this year. Earlier, Jabalpur collector's office too had availed an ISO certificate. Office of the superintendent of police of Dewas was probably the first to become ISO certified office of the state in around 2006.

Jabalpur district administration has adopted e-governance with a view to provide quality service to the citizens. Computerisation of major back office jobs and processes also helped in better planning of resources and speedy decision making.

With the availability of computerised data monitoring becomes easier and effective and eventually helps in better delivery of services, said Jabaplur collector Shivnarain Rupla.

District administration Jabalpur has since then taken a number of e-governance initiatives. Jabalpur collectorate is ISO 9001:2008 certified. Regular trainings are being organised for the officers and staff on the quality policy and the improvements thereof.

The achievement is that most of the staff have acquired proficiency in computer operations and are so used to computers that, in case, they are asked to revert they would certainly refuse to do so.

Several other semi-government offices like MP tourism Development Corporation, MPFC (MP financial Corporation), electricity distribution companies etc have also adopted ISO certificates besides most of the Union government offices are also ISO certified.

"ISO company officials pay frequent visits and ensure that ISO norms are maintained, this helps in ensuring quality delivery service to the consumers," said a senior official well versed with ISO certification.
