An eight-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped and murdered in a field in Jhusi late on Saturday evening on the outskirts of the city. Her body was discovered on Sunday morning with traces of blood.
DM Bhavnath Singh and SSP Deepak Kumar and SP Trans Ganga Shafiq Ahmad rushed to the place as angry residents demanded immediate arrest of culprits.
The persons named in the police complaint were nabbed and are being investigated.
The father of the girl, who is differently abled, had sent her to buy tobacco from a shop in the area at around 7 in the evening. However, when the girl failed to return, the father thought that she might have stayed back in the village where a marriage ceremony was in progress. In fact, some members of the girl's family were attending the marriage ceremony.
In a search conducted by the villagers, her slippers were found in a nearby field following which her blood-stained body was found.
Sources say that the rapists had probably gagged her mouth so tightly while molesting her that she was choked to death. The killers escaped from the scene after the incident leaving her body behind.
The DM and SSP pacified the villagers after assuring them of quick action.
