A number of people were injured, two seriously, when Chambal Express rammed into Pune-Dharbhanga Express from behind between Rambagh and Allahabad Junction station on late Thursday evening. The accident took place at around 8:17 pm.

The Pune-Dharbhanga Express was standing in the outer waiting for the signal to proceed towards the Allahabad Junction. In the meantime, Chambal Express, reportedly after breaking the automatic signal, hit the Pune-Dharbhanga Express from behind.

Locals, including people from the MLN Medical College reached the accident spot and started helping out injured passengers numbering around five dozen. An accident relief train reached the spot only an hour after the accident. The injured were then rushed to the Railway hospital for treatment. There were no reports of any death by the time of filing of this report. The seriously injured guard of Pune-Dharbhanga Express, whose right time of arrival at Allahabad is 5.15 pm and was running three hours late today, was still trapped in the wreckage.
