Career diplomat Alok Prasad on Friday took over as India's new High Commissioner to Sri Lanka.
Prasad, a 1974 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, presented his credentials to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the sea-front Presidential Secretariat here, officials said.
He was previously India's High Commissioner in Singapore and replaces Nirupama Rao who had been posted to China.
Prasad had represented India in various capacities in Germany, UN-New York, the Netherlands, Nepal, Burma and Botswana.
He has also worked in the Office of Prime Minister, where he was closely involved with India's economic liberalization and structural reforms programme.
