In order to prove he has nothing to hide, Lok Manch leader Amar Singh on Thursday laid himself bare, literally and almost entirely.

He was incensed by Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's snide that the former's compassion for the people was not at the expense of all the luxuries of life.

To demonstrate something to the contrary, he pulled down his pyjama in full public view.

SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav at a rally had criticised Amar Singh for luxurious living while "fighting" for the poor in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

At a press conference in Kanpur, Singh first pulled up his pyjama to show a swelling on his ankle. Then he unhooked his pyjama and took it down below his bandaged knee.

"See the swelling, the injury and infection. Is it a sign of someone doing politics with luxury," he asked.

"I can show Mulayam Singh and his 'gurge' (cronies) every inch of my body," he said.

What provoked Yadav to talk about Singh's riches was the three luxury buses the latter used to travel with leaders of the Lok Manch in one of most backward regions of the state.
