In the wake of communal clashes in Kishtwar district, pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath was suspended from Jammu on Saturday as a precautionary measure.

"No fresh batch has been allowed to travel from Jammu to the shrine in South Kashmir today," police said.

The Buddha Amaranth yatra, however, continued with a batch of 554 pilgrims leaving for the shrine of Lord Shiva in Mandi hills in Poonch district.

They said 554 pilgrims, including 370 men, 155 women and 29 children, left for Poonch on Saturday morning in a convoy of 14 buses.
