Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Tuesday sought the immediate intervention of the Centre in resolving the Amarnath shrine crisis and warned that if the ongoing protest was not checked now, it could engulf the entire nation.
As the news of land withdrawal from the holy shrine is travelling to other states, the right-minded people are rising in protest and if the crisis is not resolved at once, one should not be surprised to see that the entire nation stands unanimously to protest against the decision resulting into law and order problems, Dhumal said in a statement.
The land had been allotted to the shrine for providing shelter to the devotees. There existed no reason whatsoever to the Jammu and Kashmir government to succumb to the pressure of a group of extremist elements, he said.
The CM said that withdrawal of land was not in good taste and interest of the nation and would harm the religious harmony which has been put at stake due to the uncalled for act of the J&K government.
The state unit of BJP along with Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other saffron bodies had yesterday staged a dharna at the main gate of Raj Bhawan here over the issue.
