A new online store for 3D printing has opened on Amazon.com. The e-business giant's US platform is for the time being its only section offering hardware and supplies for 3D printing, which is all the rage nowadays.
The 3D printer is still a dream machine because it's theoretically capable of reproducing any object at all based on a three-dimensional blueprint.
A market poised to boom
SmarTech Markets Publishing estimates sales of 3D printers, services and software at $1.8 billion in 2013, a figure that could nearly triple in five years to $5.1 billion by 2018. Given the current price of this cutting-edge equipment, the target market for now is mainly confined to professional buyers such as schools, universities and medical facilities.
