An American woman was allegedly raped by an unidentified man at knifepoint at her penthouse in the city’s posh Banjara Hills neighbourhood early on Wednesday morning, the police said. The intruder also allegedly stole Rs 5 lakh from her house.
City Police Commissioner A.K. Khan visited the woman’s residence and said investigations were on. However, no arrests were made.
The 30-year-old woman, working for the William Jefferson Clinton Foundation and living here for the past one-and-half years, has been sent to Osmania General Hospital for a medical examination.
“The woman has been staying as a tenant in the house from October 2009. She is working as a nutritionist in the William Jefferson Clinton Foundation,” Stephen Ravindra, deputy commissioner of police, Hyderabad (West Zone), said.
In her complaint, she said that at 3 a.m. on Wednesday, she heard strange noises in her house. When she woke up she saw a man, wielding a knife, standing in front of her.
The intruder sexually assaulted her at knifepoint and took Rs 5 lakh from her room.
The police said the woman was living alone in the penthouse at the time of the crime.
Two special police teams were formed and a manhunt has been launched to nab the accused on the basis of the description given by the victim.
