The Indian paralympic team bagged 17 medals, including three gold and two London Olympic Games berths in the ongoing IWAS World Games in Sharjah.

According to information received in New Delhi, discus thrower Amit Kumar and sprinter Sandeep Singh performed well to earn a passage to the 2012 Games. Amit set an Asian record of 9.44 metres on way to gold, while Sandeep won the 200m title to qualify.

Raghavendra Anvekar also had a good run in the pool as, apart from winning gold in 400m freestyle, he also won two silver. Prashanta Karmakar picked up silver and two bronze, while Sharath Gayakwad clinched a silver and a bronze in swimming. Powerlifter Farman Basha won silver in 48kg category, while Deepa Malik won two bronze, in javelin and shot put (F53 category) respectively.
