The AIADMK took its celebrations over the acquittal of party chief J Jayalalithaa in a graft case on Monday to cyberspace, with a swift makeover of its official website declaring “Amma is back”.
A photograph of a beaming Jayalalithaa against a green backdrop adorned the website’s homepage, with animation of fireworks forming the backdrop. A song welcoming Amma, as the former chief minister is popularly known in Tamil Nadu, provided musical accompaniment.
A message in Tamil declared that 'sometimes evil overcomes justice, but justice finally prevails' – a reference to the Karnataka high court’s acquittal of Jayalalithaa following her appeal against her conviction by a lower court last year for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to her known sources of income.
The acquittal cleared the decks for Jayalalithaa’s return to the post of chief minister, which was held since her conviction by her close aide O Panneerselvam.
