The arrest of alleged Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) activist Jaswinder Singh by the Delhi Police from Anandpur Sahib has come as a surprise for local residents.

According to residents, Jaswinder Singh was living a normal life and they had never heard or suspected his involvement in any criminal or unlawful activity.

A team of Delhi Police had raided his house on the VIP road near Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib at Anandpur Sahib on Thursday afternoon. The raid continued for a few hours before the Delhi Police picked up Jaswinder. Police also recovered two pistols and two-and-a-half dozen cartridges from him.

The Rupnagar police had provided assistance to Delhi Police in its operation.

Rupnagar SSP Jatinder Singh Aulakh said there was no case registered against Jaswinder Singh earlier.

Sources said Jaswinder had visited Dubai and Canada recently. His father is a ragi at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib.

The other BKI activist, Sarabpreet Singh, arrested by the Delhi Police had been residing at Anandpur Sahib before he shifted to Delhi over five years ago. Sarabpreet was reportedly involved in criminal activities in Anandpur Sahib, including the murder of a trader.

When contacted, zonal IG SL Gakhar said that the police were not aware about any case against Jaswinder earlier.
