THAT THE BJP national general secretary and party affairs in-charge of Madhya Pradesh, Ananth Kumar, did not attend the State BJP core committee meeting could have been a minor matter but for want of information about his visit programme to the party office. There was more than what met the eye.
The meeting was held yesterday and several members, besides Ananth Kumar, did not attend the meeting. According to party sources, if any central leader visits the State, the central party invariably sends the information about the visit to the State BJP organising general secretary’s office. But the State BJP organising general secretary Kaptan Singh Solanki’s office did not receive any communiqué from the central office about Ananth Kumar’s programme.
Prior to the core committee meeting, the State BJP secretary Roop Pamnani had told the media that Ananth Kumar would attend the meeting. Pamnani is much close to the State BJP president Satyanarayan Jatia.
The news appearing in the media surprised the State BJP office, yet there was no effort to verify the information by contacting the central party, for the party leaders engaged with the party office affairs know well that if anybody visits from Delhi, information about his/her visit is bound to come from Delhi.
The party sources said Ananth Kumar’s presence at the meeting would have amounted to the central leadership endorsing Jatia’s initiative in constituting the core committee. Hence his decision to keep away from the meeting.
They said the central leadership was of considered opinion that without coordination committee in place, such an arrangement was meaningless. They wanted constitution of coordination committee first. That’s why the State BJP had to cancel the core committee’s scheduled meeting in Delhi recently, which was announced to be held in presence of a number of central BJP leaders.
When contacted, Kaptan Singh Solanki refused to comment on Ananth Kumar’s visit programme. Pamnani, however, said Kumar might have had some preoccupations, as he did not attend the meet.
