Jammu and Kashmir Awami National Conference (ANC) Friday demanded phased withdrawal of security forces from hinterland of the state.
The security forces should be withdrawn in a phased manner from different regions of Jammu and Kashmir, and local police should be given overall authority to handle law and order situation, senior vice-president of ANC, Muzaffar Shah told reporters here.
This would help in building confidence of people in the administration, he added.
Commenting on the state government's performance during the last one year, Shah said the claims of its achievements were hollow.
The ANC leader said the party president Khalida Shah would be undertaking a tour to all areas of Jammu and frontier region of Ladakh from next month to educate the masses on the political resolution of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the ANC is organising the first death anniversary of G M Shah, the founder of the party and former Chief Minister of J&K, here on Saturday.
