WHY DID SP (East) Rakesh Pradhan misinform Director General of Police (DGP) Bua Singh about the statement of Ashiana rape victim’s father?

Have the Lucknow police come out openly in favour of the influential accused in the sensational rape case?

Pradhan, while talking to HT Lucknow Live on Tuesday, stated that girl’s father did not speak about the money offered by Shakti Vahini member Deepa Bhatt. However, everyone knows the victim’s father had lodged a complaint about threats etc with the district judge about 15 days ago.

Pradhan’s statement was endorsed by DGP Singh on Wednesday when ex-Vice Chancellor of Lucknow University Prof Roop Rekha Verma of Sanjhi Duniya and Madhu Garg of AIDWA went to visit him along with the girl’s father. The DGP said that he had received report from his subordinates which stated that the girl’s father had not given any statement related to the threats issued to him and the money offered to settle a compromise with the accused.

Later, Garg and Prof Verma later showed the copy of the FIR to the DGP lodged by girl’s father on April 11 with the Ashiana police station. The complainant had stated in the FIR about receiving threats from unidentified goons. He further stated in the complaint about Deepa Bhatt and an unidentified woman luring him with money and also threatening with dire consequences if he did not withdraw the charges against Anna Maharaj’s nephew.

Here name of Anna Maharaj is referred to don-turned ex-Samajwadi Party MLC Arun Shanker Shukla alias Anna. His nephew Gaurav was the main accused who had abducted and raped the poor girl.

Both the women activists raised question before the DGP as to how did a police officer pass on false report to the top most officer of the department. DGP Singh, however, assured the activists to extend all help from the police in the case.

Prof Verma and Garg later visited the District Judge who assured them that he had ordered to initiate process of trial of the case immediately. He also had ordered to hear the case on daily basis.
