Andhra to soon have an IIM, says Arjun Singh

The prestigious Indian Institute of Management will soon be set up in Andhra Pradesh, says Union Minister for Human Resource Development Arjun Singh.

The prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) will soon be set up in Andhra Pradesh, Union Minister for Human Resource Development Arjun Singh said in Hyderabad on Saturday.

"AP will have an IIM in this plan period," Singh said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the South Central regional centre of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Earlier, the Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy, during his address, requested the Union Minister to sanction an IIM for the state which was emerging as a major knowledge hub in the country.

The establishment of IIM has been a long-pending demand of the state.

The Centre had recently sanctioned Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) for the state, which will be set up in the neighbouring Medak district.
