* No university degree is required to enter the industry, but normally you need to be a 12th standard pass of equivalent. Graduates can be from any discipline, but having a background in art, photography, filmmaking, direction, drawing, sketching, sculpting, clay modelling or puppetry is now being sought by a few studios.
For production jobs at most studios you do not need to be able to draw. But for jobs in pre-production, a tiny but emerging industry in Mumbai, you must be able to draw or sculpt characters and come from a fine arts background.
* In the olden days, you could be taken on as an apprentice, but now companies prefer trainees who are industry-ready and have completed a 3D software animation course. A minimum six-month qualification in 3D animation software such as Maya is all that is required.
* A person of any age can take the career up, but most entry-level employees are in their late teens or twenties.
