Ankit wins second gold for MP

ANKIT PACHAURI of Bhopal won second gold for the Madhya Pradesh team on Thursday in the 17th National Kayaking and Canoeing Championship being organised at Water Sports Centre of Sports Directorate, Upper Lake. Sports Directorate is organising the championship.

ANKIT PACHAURI of Bhopal won second gold for the Madhya Pradesh team on Thursday in the 17th National Kayaking and Canoeing Championship being organised at Water Sports Centre of Sports Directorate, Upper Lake. Sports Directorate is organising the championship. 

After a dull start by the state team in the morning session, Ankit Pachauri once again brought smiles in the camp by winning gold medal in the junior boys’ C-1 category of the 500 m section. Incidentally, his rival was again O James.
O James had given tough fight to Ankit on Wednesday in the C-1 category of the 1000 m. Ankit won the first gold in that event.

The result was same on Thursday, as James failed to stop Ankit. However, this time the contest was closer. Ankit won the event with the timing 2.03 minutes, while James stood second with the timing 2.05 minutes. Nilkanth of Manipur came third.

MP won second medal of the day in K-4 category. The state team won bronze in sub junior boys’ section. The team included Kuldeep Singh, Sunny Keer, Vivek, Nishad and Vikrant Saxena. Team of Army Sports Control Board (ASCB) stood first in the same category that included Sachin Kumar, Ankit R, Islawar Dayal and Ram Lakhan.

In the other categories women team of Kerala dominated. The team stood first in three categories including junior women K-2 section (Indumol TP, Libimol), senior women K-4 section (Josna, Betty, Indumol, Jisha) and senior women K-2 section (Jessymol, Minimol).

Important day for MP today
Friday will be an important day for the Madhya Pradesh as the team is to contest in the finals of the six different events. Ankit Pachuri and Shakti Keer are to appear in the C-2 junior boys’ 500 m. Coach Mayank Thakur said that medal is possible in two categories including C-2 and K-2.
