Five months after labelling politicians as 'uneducated', actor Om Puri has come round to the view that activist Anna Hazare is not well educated and lacks vision.
Puri, who once supported Hazare's movement against corruption and targeted members of Parliament during a speech at the Ram Lila Maidan in New Delhi last year, said the Gandhian's goals were genuine, but the way he wanted to achieve them was not practical.
"Anna does not have the vision to change the corrupt system of our country," said Puri, who had earlier labelled politicians as thieves and MPs as 'anpadh' (illiterate).
"Anna is a retired soldier. I don't think he got much opportunity for a proper education. He is trying to fight corruption with a core team of only four or five persons. It cannot be done with such an approach," Puri told reporters.
The actor is here on a two-day visit for the international film festival being organised at Sardar Patel College.
"Anna is sincere, but being so is not enough to change the system. Moreover, only Parliament, our elected body, has the right to make any law. I think Parliament should not be ignored at any level," said Puri.
He lashed out at Bollywood film producers for using actors such as porn star Sunny Leone to promote their movies.
"It is a cheap way of earning money. Such tactics by certain producers will lower Bollywood's image," Puri added.
Stressing the need to make more art films, the veteran actor said, "Presently, only 5% of the total films show the real face of society. The rest are made only to mint money."
Meanwhile, Puri starrer 'East is East' was screened at the festival. Later, the actor interacted with students of the college.
