The DMK's youth wing leader and Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister MK Stalin, music maestro and ‘Oscar’ winner, AR Rahman and the ‘Moon Man’, Mylswamy Annadurai, uniquely shared honours on the same dais here this evening as the Anna University, India’s largest technical University, conferred on each of them Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa).

At a glittering function at the Madras University Centenary Auditorium in Chennai, Stalin was conferred the honorary doctorate for his unique contributions to governance and social development, Rahman for his innovative and creative talent in taking Indian music to the global stage and Mylswamy Annadurai for his immense contribution to space science as Project Director of ISRO’s Space Mission ‘Chandraayan’.

While the Governor and the Anna University ’s Chancellor, SS Barnala presided over the ‘Special Convocation’ as part of the late DMK leader CN Annadurai’s Centenary Celebrations, the huge hall was packed with political VIPs’ and others including Union Textiles Minister, Dayanidhi Maran, Telecom Minister A Raja, and DMK MP, Ms. Kanimozhi.

However, conspicuous by their absence was Stalin’s father and Chief Minister, M Karunanidhi, himself, who earlier on Saturday left for Bangalore to participate in the unveiling of the Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar’s statue there on Aug 9. Also, Stalin’s elder brother and Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, MK Azhagiri, was not to be seen at the function.
