Another 36 patients who underwent free surgery at a private hospital in Perambalur, 250 km South of here, have lost their vision in one eye.
It may be recalled that 20 others lost their vision last week in a similar eye surgery.
While the earlier set of 20 patients was from Kaduvanur village in Villupuram district, the second lot hails from the adjacent Nainarpalayam village.
Villupuram District Collector Brajendra Navnit got them admitted to the Government Hospital in Villupuram town, after news of the tragedy spread.
"They are not able to see with the eye operated upon," Navnit told HT over telephone on Wednesday.
State Minister for Higher Education K Ponmudi on Wednesday handed over a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to each of the 36 patients.
Navnit and Perambalur District Collector Anil Meshram said that analysis of solutions used for surgery was awaited.
