Goli Sushma, a 25-year-old software engineer from Andhra Pradesh, was found dead in mysterious circumstances at her home in Northridge, California on Thursday.
Since last December, eight people from Andhra have died in the US. The police have failed to make a breakthrough in any case.
Sushma’s body was found hanging in the storeroom of her house, where she lived with her husband, Suresh Babu, on Friday. They had married in 2006 and moved to the US soon after.
Sushma’s parents, who live in Hyderabad, heard the news from a relative on Friday evening. They refused to believe that she could have committed suicide. They said Suresh, a software engineer, could have murdered Sushma because as was not well between the couple and Suresh was harassing her for more dowry.
The police in the US said on Saturday that no foul play was suspected in the death. The autopsy report was awaited.
“I do not believe that there is a crime associated with the death,” said sergeant Maria Stpierre, superviser at the Devonshire police station.
V Kanakaraju, Sushma’s father, said he received the news of the death from Harika, a relative in Los Angeles. Kanakaraju said he was suspicious because Suresh did not answer any of his calls.
“We are totally in the dark,” said Vamshi, Sushma’s brother.
