Suspected Garo militants have abducted a government contractor in the state's West Garo Hills, police said on Thursday.

Contractor of the state's Public Health Engineering department, Dipok Saha (45), was abducted at gun point by around a dozen Garo National Liberation Army cadres Wednesday evening, they said.

Saha was coming from Tura, the district headquarter town, to Dalu when the incident happened at Kherapara. The militant, however, let off Saha's driver Chironjit.

A few days back another contractor, Abdul Rashid, was abducted by the GNLA from Rajabala in the same district. He is still missing and police say the outfit has demanded Rs 50 lakh for his release.
