Another statehood call
Leaders from coastal region, belonging to major political parties had their first meeting at Vijayawada endorsed demand for separate Andhra state, reports Ashok Dasindia Updated: Dec 27, 2006 02:20 IST
In a replay of the political situation in the 1970s — when there was a parallel movement for separate Andhra state coinciding with the demand for Telangana — prominent leaders from the state have now given a call for formation of a separate Andhra state.
Leaders from coastal region, belonging to major political parties had their first meeting at Vijayawada on Monday where they endorsed this demand.
In the wake of a strong showing by TRS in the Karimnagar Lok Sabha by-poll, which points to a strong sentiment in favour of a separate state, the leaders from coastal region cutting across party lines feel that time is ripe for the carving out two states from one — Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
