Hours after the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) swept the assembly by-polls and promised to intensify the agitation for a separate state on Friday, a student's charred body was found inside the Osmania University campus.
Suspected to have immolated himself, T Eshan Reddy (22) left a suicide note saying he was fulfilling his "wish" to give up his life after the Congress was defeated in the polls. He congratulated TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao and urged him to continue the agitation.
"It looks like self-immolation. Cause of death will be known after autopsy," said M C Ladda, deputy commissioner of police.
Reddy is the fourth Osmania student to commit suicide over the statehood issue this year.
Police allowed hundreds of Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) activists to take out a procession carrying the body. Rao, Maoist sympathiser Gaddar and JAC chairman Kodandaram joined in.
The JAC said more than 300 youth had committed suicide in Telangana since the protests began in November last year.
