Another person from Bhatkal was arrested by the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch police at the Mangaluru International Airport just before he was to board a flight to Dubai late on Saturday.

Although some sources in the investigating team leaked information of the arrest to the media, top police officers such as Bengaluru police commissioner MN Reddi and CCB DCP Abhishek Goyal maintained silence over the development, refusing to confirm or deny it.

The suspect, who sources say is Riyaz Ahmed Sayeedi, 32, was allegedly nabbed on the basis of information provided by the three other terror suspects who were nabbed last week. Conflicting claims emerged about Sayeedi’s whereabouts with the Mangaluru police claiming that he was being interrogated in that city and Bengaluru police sources claiming he was taken to the state capital for interrogation.

Meanwhile, sources in Bhatkal told HT that a surprise search was conducted by the police at Sayeedi’s house at 7 am on Sunday. His family as well as community leaders confirmed that a few well known people from the locality accompanied the police during the raid as per procedure.

Riaz’s father, Khwaja Sayeedi, said, “My son has been working at hardware store in Dubai for the last 10 years. He comes home for a few days every year. It is wrong that he tried to escape fearing arrest?” His sister Nafisa also said that the police did not find anything in their house during the raid.
