Another worker, this time also from Tamil Nadu, died an accidental death while fleeing Libya, trying to escape the gun battles between protestors fighting for democracy and soldiers.
Ashok Kumar was among those escaping in a car that met with an accident last week. He and a few others were trying to cross over to Egypt on February 19 from Tobruk, a city in northeastern Libya, when the accident happened. Before him, S Murugaiah had succumbed to injuries he sustained last Saturday, when the vehicle in which he was fleeing met with a road mishap.
Family members received news of Ashok Kumar’s death on Thursday morning at Thalaivankottai village in Tirunelveli district, some 500 km south of Chennai. M Pappathurasi, wife of a worker injured along with Ashok Kumar, said, “My husband is in hospital with a broken leg. He wants to come back ... I request the government to bring him back.”
