THE DADRI movement of the Jan Morcha Alliance (JMA) of former Prime Minister VP Singh and Raj Babbar has turned out to be the rallying point for anti-Mulayam forces in the State. Even though Singh could not succeed in reaching Bajhera Khurd (Dadri) to plough the land allotted to Reliance Energy Generation Limited on Thursday, massive farmers’ mobilisation on the issue has set alarm bells ringing for the ruling SP.
The police were on its toes to stop the movement of people from various parts of the State to Dadri on Thursday. Reports said that a large number of farmers who were on way to Dadri were detained in western UP. In fact, the VP Singh-Raj Babbar team wanted to create a hype on Dadri issue and they have succeeded in their plan.
VP Singh by consistently hammering on the Dadri issue for the last few months has mobilised support from various political parties. While the CPI had already joined VP Singh’s bandwagon, the CPM which still demonstrates its proximity with the Chief Minister has extended support to the JMA on Dadri issue. Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has also supported the movement. NCP president Ramesh Dixit condemned the arrest of VP Singh, Raj Babbar and others.
Shaken by the farmers’ mobilization, RLD president Chaudhury Ajit Singh has already assailed the State Government for grabbing farmers’ land for builders.
The RLD, according to reports, is jittery about farmers’ support to the JMA.
While Dadri land issue has become a handy weapon to target the government, the JMA has also blasted the government for planning to grab more land in the guise of special economic zones. Babbar accused the government of resorting to ‘land-grabbing spree’ for builders.
