The working president of the Apna Dal, Pradip Srivastava on Friday announced the merger of his party with the Congress.

Talking to newspersons at the UPCC in Lucknow, Srivastava said that the working committee of the party has expelled its president, Sonelal Patel for his anti-party activities and decided to merge the party with the Congress.

Srivastava who had been given party symbol to contest the Phulpur seat which went to elections in the second phase on Thursday said that Patel later went on to file his nomination from the same seat as independent candidate and this amounted to anti-party activity.
Patel is an influential kurmi leader and has pockets of influence in some parts of the state.
