Picture this, your friends visit the city and for want of good places to eat in a particular area, you frantically call some of your trusted local guides. Or you rely on listing services for addresses in your vicinity. To ease this dilemma of the constant hunt for good diners, online food guide website, Zomato.com released a smartphone application last week that does all the hard work for you.
Till now available only for Android OS services, the Zomato app is now available for free download on Blackberry phones. The app not only lists restaurants according to particular areas, it also gives you user ratings, reviews and downloadable menu PDFs. "We wanted to make sure users are always connected with good places to eat. You may know which restaurant is close by, but there is no way of knowing if it’s really worth your time, money and effort," explains Pankaj Chaddah, of Zomato.
What’s more, the application also comes with an A-GPS system, which recommends the nearest possible eatery by collating your current location. In case you need directions, the app also helps you navigate from your current location to that particular place. "It’s actually very convenient. All you have to do is rub the trackpad and it keeps giving you options in a particular radius. In Mumbai, 4,500 restaurants are listed from ‘dhabas’, famous road side stalls to even fine dining eateries," says Chaddah. The app is also available for Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune and Kolkata. The radius varies from city-to-city. In metros like Mumbai and Delhi, the radius is measured at 3.5 kms.
"This ensures that you have plenty of options to choose from. Plus in cities like Mumbai, the density of good places to eat is varied. Some have more, some barely have any. We purposefully kept such a big area to ensure that at any given location, you have some results and not no results," says Chaddah.
The app has already received 2,700 downloads on Blackberry and a total of 3,500 downloads for smartphones. “We are planning to release an iPhone app by the end of the month,” says Chaddah.
