There are two kinds of people in Mumbai; the first lot keep asking themselves ‘what should I do this weekend?’, the second belong to a group called Cornucopia Weekend Planners (CWP).
Started by Aditya Singh Cahuhan, a former business consultant with KPMG, who had his ah-ha moment when he realised practically everyone he knew would ask each other what they could do on the weekend, CWP is designed to cater to every interest. “I realised that everyone got really excited on Friday about the weekend but didn’t really know what to do with their time,” says the 29-year-old entrepreneur, who turned this simple fact of life into his very own big idea.
So how can CWP improve your weekend? To start with, you will be asked what your interests are. Trekking? Turkish films? Funky haircuts? Then, depending upon what you like, they will ensure you have the latest information about any gigs/festivals/sales in the city. “We maintain detailed profiles of all our clients. Every Wednesday, they get an email about the most happening events in the city,” says Chauhan, who at times also accompanies the group of enthusiasts on trips, which may include staying in a tree house or spending the night in a cave. The group also enjoys occasional meet-ups.
To ensure that members don’t burn a hole in their pocket while having fun, Chauhan has tie-ups with restaurants, event companies and bars. “This allows us to give our clients discounts and easy access to many events,” he says, adding that the membership fee is a nominal Rs 1,000 for a year.
