Wedding celebrations turned sour for a newlywed couple and their relatives on Monday, after two motorcycle-borne men robbed them at gunpoint near Ramprastha area of Ghaziabad.

The robbers managed to escape with the cash and jewellery, police officials said.

The incident occurred around 5 am on Monday, when Yogesh Kumar Lamba and his newlywed wife Shalini, along with other relatives, entered the Uttar Pradesh border in their WagonR.

The two motorcycle-borne armed robbers hit the Wagon R from behind and robbed the family members at gunpoint near Ramprastha colony, 200 metres away from Delhi border.

"The two men forcibly took away cash and the bride's jewellery. The robbers also threatened the couple against raising an alarm," said Link Road station officer Avnish Gautam.

The couple, who got married on Sunday night at the DDA ground near Karkardooma area of Delhi, was returning home.

Interestingly, the two robbers were spotted at the couple's marriage function as well.

"We have lost jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh besides cash in the incident," Lamba said.

The family has lodged an FIR at the Link Road police station against the unidentified robbers.

"Family members have told us that the robbers attended the wedding on Sunday night. We have asked for the video clippings and pictures of the function to trace the culprits," Gautam said.
