Army foiled an infiltration bid in the Poonch sector in which two terrorists were gunned down during an encounter along the Line-of-Control (LoC) early on Saturday. A jawan was also injured during the encounter.
Speaking about the incident, a defence spokesperson said that troops posted along the LoC at Kalsa forward post noticed some suspicious movements of a group of infiltrators trying to sneak into the Indian side at around 2.30 am. A forward party was rushed to track and corner the infiltrators.
The spokesperson said that after being challenged, the infiltrators opened fire on the troops. The army personnel retaliated and during the encounter two terrorists were shot dead. The search operation continued for many hours in the area.
Army has recovered two Ak-47 rifles, eight magazines, a time device and one handycam from the site of the encounter.
Meanwhile, the injured jawan was rushed to hospital where his condition is reported to be stable.
It may be recalled that Pakistan has been firing consistently along the LoC in Poonch sector for quite some time. The army officials said it was an attempt to facilitate the infiltration.
An infiltration attempt was foiled in Sawjian area on May 3. The Pak army had fired along the Mendhar sector on May 28 also.
According to defence sources, there has been concentration of terrorists across the LoC, but they are not able to infiltrate because of the high alert of Army.
