Army foils infiltration bid, militant killed

The army foiled an infiltration bid by militants along the Line of Control in the Tangdhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir, killing an ultra. With this, the number of militants killed in counter-infiltration operations along the line of control (LoC) in Kupwara district has risen to 11 in the past five days.

The army foiled an infiltration bid by militants along the Line of Control in the Tangdhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir, killing an ultra. With this, the number of militants killed in counter-infiltration operations along the line of control (LoC) in Kupwara district has risen to 11 in the past five days.

A militant was killed along the LoC in the Tangdhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir, as militants tried to infiltrate into the Indian territory.

An army official said troops along the LoC in the Tangdhar sector noticed two militants trying to sneak into the Valley from across the border late Thursday night.

"The militants were challenged by the soldiers and, in the ensuing gun battle, a militant was killed," said an official who did not want to be named. An AK 47 rifle and three magazines were seized from the scene of the encounter.

Five militants were killed when army foiled an infiltration bid in Hafruda forest area of Handwara on Wednesday, while four militants were killed in the Macchil sector on Tuesday. An ultra was shot dead in the Keran sector of Kupwara district on Monday. Five militants were killed in a failed infiltration bid in the Keran sector on July 9.
