The Army on Tuesday handed over about 18 acres of demined agricultural land to villagers living along Line of Control (LoC) in Pallanwala sector of Jammu district.

"We have handed over about 18 acres of demined agriculture land along LoC to farmers in Pallanwala area of Akhnoor tehsil in Jammu district today," defence spokesman Lt Col Biplab Nath said.

This has been done after the persistent demands raised by the deputy chief minister Tara Chand with the defence minister mand Centre to ensure that farmers get back their agriculture land.

"We are very happy that army has demined vast stretches of agriculture land along LoC and handed over to farmers in Pallanwala sector," the deputy chief minister said.

The troops of Bawan Brigade under the aegis of Cross Swords Division cleared the area, the spokesman said.

The cleared area was handed over in a simple ceremony to assistant commissioner (Mazool) Jammu Pawan Kunar Sharma by the Commander Bawan Brigade.
