Army organises 'run for peace'

The Rashtriya Rifles battalion based at Bagga, under the aegis of Counter Insurgency Force (Uniform) organised a 'Run for Peace' (mini-marathon) for the youth of Mahore, Samote and Gul tehsil on Sunday.

The Rashtriya Rifles battalion based at Bagga, under the aegis of Counter Insurgency Force (Uniform) organised a 'Run for Peace' (mini-marathon) for the youth of Mahore, Samote and Gul tehsil on Sunday.

The mini-marathon was organised to promote sports among the youth of the region and to provide them a recreational activity in order to channelise and harness their energy in a constructive manner.

The mini-marathon was conducted from Mahore to Bagga over a distance of 10 km in the hilly terrain, which saw participation by 79 runners. The youth participated with great enthusiasm and were seen warming up in earnest before commencement of the event. It was creditable that all the participants finished the run with competitive timings.

Shabir Ahmed, a resident of Badder village, Mahore, clinched the top position by clocking 32 minutes and 7 seconds in the above-18 year category and Beapan Singh, a resident of Sarh village, Mahore tehsil, clinched the top position by clocking 33 minutes and 10 seconds in the below-18 year category.

The event culminated with the distribution of cash prizes and participation certificate as well as various complimentary prizes to the participants by senior army officials and Mahore SDM AK Khajuria.
