Army troops on Sunday detected and recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), weighing four kgs each, in Tangdhar area of Kupwara district near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir.

"A patrol party of Infantry unit operating in area of village Amrui in Tangdhar detected two IEDs planted near the foot track leading to the village at 6.30 AM today," an Army release said.

Based on intelligence inputs received from unit sources, the troops carried out a search operation of the areas astride the foot track of Amrui village which led to recovery of two IEDs, the release said, adding each IED weighs around four kgs.

"A major tragedy was thus averted by thwarting the ill designs of the terrorists who intended to cause violence and terror in the run up to the Assembly elections," the statement added.
