The police in Madhepura have ordered the arrests of Congress leaders Bihar unit president Mehboob Ali Kaiser and Lovely Anand for allegedly violating the model code of conduct during the elections.
Madhepura police superintendent Varun Kumar Sinha on Sunday ordered the arrest of Kaiser and Anand in connection with separate cases of violations. Both Kaiser and Anand lost the election.
Kaiser fought from Simri-Bakhtiarpur, and Anand, wife of jailed don Anand Mohan, from Alamnagar. Anand Mohan has been convicted for the murder of IAS officer Krishnaiah in 1994.
Kaiser has resigned as Bihar Congress president owning up moral responsibility for the party's poll debacle.
Sinha said the deputy superintendent of police in his supervision report had held the two leaders guilty. They were charged with violating the model code of conduct by landing their chopper without permission from the authorities for addressing an election meeting on October 4.
Kaiser and Anand were required to come to the police station and seek bail by furnishing the necessary bonds, he said.
