An arrest warrant against East Kameng Superintendent of Police T Amo was on Thursday issued following his failure to turn up in Itanagar on wednesday to make a statement in connection with a rape case registered against him, police said.
Itanagar police had registered a case under section 376 IPC (Punishment for Rape) following a complaint lodged by the mother of a 15 year old Class X student on May 7 against Amo for sexually exploiting her daughter.
According to Hibu Tamang, Arunachal State Capital Superintendent of Police, police is looking for Amo who disappeared after reaching Itanagar despite having earlier promised to cooperate with the police.
When contacted, the East Kameng Deputy Commissioner Nani Mali told PTI on the phone that Amo had left Seppa, the district headquarters, for Itanagar on May 12 saying he had to go to the state capital to sort out some personal problem and had not returned to Seppa yet.
The Home Commissioner T Taloh when asked about the recommendation to the state government by the police chief for suspension of Amo, as reported in a section of the press, said, the recommendation may be there "but I am not aware of it".
